A pair of antique George Jones pate-sur-pate vases, decorated with delicate cherub figures set against a rich dark blue base. The vases are enhanced by gilt-decorated rims. Bears an impressed mark on the bottom. Each vase is numbered on the bottom. Dating to the 19th century, c.1873 - when George Jones and Co became George Jones and Sons Ltd. Pate-sur-pate is a French term meaning paste on paste. It is a method of porcelain decoration in which a relief design is created on an unfired, unglazed body, usually with a coloured body, by applying successive layers of (usually) white porcelain slip with a brush.
