Cast bronze and green marble sculpture by Louis-Ernest Barrias, 1841 to 1905, a French sculptor of the Beaux-Arts school involved in the decoration of the Paris Opera. The piece represents a woman writing on the marble monument. Inscription: A Nestor Denis, Redacteur en chef de Memorial des Vosges, Souvenir de 18 annes de luttes pour la republique, la liberte et la patrie, 1889-1907. To Nestor Denis, Editor-in-chief of Memorial des Vosges, Memory of 18 years of struggles for the republic, freedom and the motherland, 1889-1907. Signed by the artist on the base. Susse Freres hallmark on the base. The Vosges Memorial was a French political newspaper published from 1870 to 1914. Susse Freres was a French bronze foundry and daguerrotype camera production.
