Hand carved wooden figurine from Gabon, Central Africa, art of the Fang Ntumu ethnic sub group. The piece is a byeri, the representation of an ancestor used in worship ceremonies. This figurine represents a female figure with exaggerated physical features and it is mounted on a wooden stand. The face is bounded from above by high semicircles of eyebrows, is often made in the shape of a heart, eyebrows and nose form a single convex line, mouth and small cut chin protrude strongly forward.
