Lot 0269: FRENCH WOMAN BRONZE SCULPTURE BY ERNEST RANCOULET

41 reviews

Ernest Rancoulet, French, 1870 to 1915, bronze sculpture, The Harvester, representing a young woman harvester returning from work in the fields. Signed, Rancoulet, on a base. Mounted on a figural stand. Ernest Rancoulet was a French sculptor best known for his Neoclassical bronze figures of mythological creatures, society women, and athletes. Rancoulet participated in the Paris Salon for several years, regularly exhibiting his elegant figurines and portrait busts. His practice was distinct for his affinity for working in pairs, often casting two varying copies of the same subject intended to be displayed side by side, as seen in his Pair of Bronze Figures of Victorian Women. The sculptor also frequently inscribed mythical verse onto his works, notably including Ovids Metamorphoses.
