An antique Japanese plate from the early Meiji period, 19th century. The plate is decorated with enamel using the cloisonne technique. The black plate is decorated with a complex rhythmic floral pattern closer to the edge. In the middle, on a flower shaped white medallion, is a composition with a blue rock, a pine tree branch, a blooming plum branch and bamboo stems resembling a traditional winter ikebana composition. There is an ornament in the form of flying petals in the bowl and on the back side. Red, blue and gold accents. Unmarked. Meiji era, 1868 to 1912, reign of Emperor Mutsuhito.
