Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, Japanese, 1839 to 1892, an antique Oban tat e color woodblock print on paper, Courtesan Takao, from the series, One Hundred Views of the Moon, 1885. The name Takao was used by several famous courtesans who lived in Edo between the 17th and early 18th centuries. It is not known exactly which Takao is depicted in the engraving, however, perhaps this is the 6th Takao, famous for her poetic talent. Signed and an artist red stamp, lower left. Inscribed with Calligraphy upper right and on the left side. Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was a Japanese printmaker. Yoshitoshi has widely been recognized as the last great master of the ukiyo e genre of woodblock printing and painting. He is also regarded as one of the forms greatest innovators.
