A large antique Japanese cloisonne enamel jar and cover, late Meiji period. The jar is of a spherical form, decorated with polychrome patterns depicting butterflies flying among chrysanthemums and other flowers on a dark turquoise ground, the bottom has a stylized chrysanthemum flower, a symbol of the Japanese emperor on a goldstone enamel ground.
