An antique Royal Vienna hand painted porcelain plate. The plate is adorned with a hand painted image depicting playing elves in a blossoming garden. Signed by the artist, Zatzka, lower left. The borders of the plate are adorned with gilded scrollwork and foliage motifs. Titled in German, Spielende Eifen, Playing Elves, and marked with an underglaze blue ink mark, on the backside. Circa: Mid to the late 19th century. Hans Zatzka, German, 1859 to 1945, was an Austrian artist, also known under the pseudonyms H. Zabateri, P. Ronsard and J. Bernard. He graduated from the Vienna Academy of Arts 1882, a student of Christian Griepenkerl, Karl Wurzinger and Karl von Blaas. The author of numerous salon paintings depicting nymphs, cupids, women, children, love couples, animals and birds, flowers, still lifes.
