An antique Moroccan Berber Jambiya silver and brass mounted dagger The shaped grip is encased in finely worked silver chiseled and chased scrollwork and geometric motifs cover the entire surface. The blade of typically curving form, the tightly mounted steel blade is alternately stepped in appearance from the centreline, sharply edged to the areas below. Constructed from sections of brass and probably silver, the scabbard, or sheath, is constructed over a native hardwood core. A pair of shaped and pierced brass lugs at the upper extreme are mounted with a pair of hinged brass rings. The scabbards surface is also finished with complex decoration, hand tooled with chasing and finely executed chisel work. A pair of loops with hanging rings on the sides. Circa: 1880s.
