A finely cast antique French sculpture made of bronze and white marble. The sculpture depicts a seated semi-nude young woman with drapery wrapped around her hips and writing or drawing with her right hand on a white marble board. She possibly represents an Allegory of Painting. Beautifully detailed and covered with a nice brown patina. Made at the bronze foundry Bronze Garanti au Titre L.V. Deposee in France in the 2nd half of the 19th century. The statue is marked with artist name and stamped with foundry stamp and smashed foundry number 5 6776. Note: Marcel Debut, son of sculptor Didier Debut was a French painter and sculptor. He studied under Chapu and J. Lefebvre. He exhibited at the Salon in 1833.
