A large Chinese Famille rose hand painted porcelain vase. The vase is adorned with hand painted images of cranes in bamboo trees in the manner of paintings by Giuseppe Castiglione. The base and the neck of the vase are decorated with blue floral, foliage and geometrical motifs. Inscribed with Hieroglyphs, red stamp, on the vase. Marked with a red ink stamp and probably signed on the bottom. Circa: 1912 to 1949. Giuseppe Castiglione, 1688 to 1766, was an Italian Jesuit brother and missionary in China, where he served as an artist at the imperial court of three Qing emperors. He painted in a style that is a fusion of European and Chinese traditions.
