An antique Japanese lidded bottle with rich ornamental gilding. The bottle has a rounded form and relief bows on the sides. The vessel is hand-painted with depictions of Japanese warriors in traditional uniform. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province. Since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated. Late Meiji era, 1868-1913.
