The artwork was made after the now lost painting by Jean-Jacques Henner, 1829 to 1905, a French religious artist. It depicts Saint Fabiola, a 4th century Christian saint of noble Roman descent who under the influence of the Church Father Jerome converted to Christianity and then worked as a nurse. The worldwide interest in this particular artwork and saint rose up after the acclaimed curatorial exhibition by Francis Alÿs at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
