Lot 0306: ART DECO STYLE BRONZE EGYPTIAN CAT SCULPTURE

41 reviews

A vintage second half of the XX Century, larger than natural bronze sculpture depicting a cat. The cat most probably an Abyssinian Sphynx is portrayed in a manner traditional for the ancient Egyptian culture. The decoration on its neck signifies the cat's regal dignity and indicates that the animal symbolizes the goddess Bastet, defender of the king and patroness of motherhood. The general lines and details of the piece are similar to the Art Deco period when Egyptian Revivalism was extremely popular. Collectible Bronze Items For Interior Design.
