41 reviews

An excellent pair of antique Japanese patinated bronze vases of ovoid form dated from the Meiji period, 1868 to 1912. Inlaid all around with scenes depicting Handaka Sonja, a Lohan or disciple of Buddha, in mixed metals including gold, silver, and copper. One vase depicts Handaka Sonja riding a dragon, and the other vase depicts Handaka Sonja riding a tiger. Reverse is decorated with highly detailed inlaid images of fruiting branches. Very fine examples of Meiji metalworker`s skill. Asian Antiques, Collectible Japanese Metalwork Specimens, Decorative Bronze Vases For Collectors.
