A fine late 19th century Meissen porcelain vase decorated with gilt bordered panels with picturesque landscape depicting Bavarian Würzburg Castle on the obverse and colorful floral composition on the reverse. The background is bright green heightened with gilding. Marked on the bottom with an underglaze crossed swords mark, signed: Meissen. Meissen porcelain, also called Dresden porcelain or porcelaine de Saxe, German hard-paste, or true, porcelain produced at the Meissen factory, near Dresden in Saxony (now Germany), from 1710 until the present day. It was the first successfully produced true porcelain in Europe and dominated the style of European porcelain manufactured until about 1756, after which the leadership ultimately passed to French Sèvres porcelain.
