Joe Descomps, French, 1869 to 1950, finely detailed cast bronze Art Deco style sculpture depicting a half nude dancing woman wearing Oriental style clothes. Decorated with flowers on a naturalistic basis, signed verso: Joe Decomps. Joseph Descomps was a well known French sculptor. Studied under Hiollin and exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artists, he won medals in 1921, 1925 and 1928. He also exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Tuileries. He specialized in figural statues, mainly ladies. He designed and executed a wide range of objects in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco style, including jewelry, sculptures in bronze, stone, and ceramics. His works are kept in many museum collections in France including the musee d’Orsay, musée du Louvre département des Sculptures, Musee Du Luxembourg, Musee National d’art Moderne and others.
