Walter Savage Landor, 1775-1864, was an English poet whose best known work was Imaginary Conversations, a record of dialogues between historical people, mainly of classical Greece and Rome. The Landor started writing this book in 1821 when he was living with his family in Florence in the Medici Palace. The work contains coversations between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Washington and Franklin, Epictetus and Seneca, etc. This lot is a complete set published in 1883 by J.C. Nimmo and Bain, London.
