Lot 0203: A RUSSIAN LARGE SILVER GILT ENGRAVED KOVSH

A Russian massive silver kovsh or ladle. Decorated with an inscription in Russian along the upper edge from the poem Kruzhka - The mug, by Gavriil Derzhavin: An adornment of feasting friends, A friend of fun and joys. The entire surface is decorated with relief stylized neo-Russian patterns with floral motifs and mythical creatures. The entire bottom is covered with the engraved names and titles of almost a hundred people. The list begins with His Imperial Majesties Grand Dukes Alexei Alexandrovich and Konstantin Konstantinovich. This is followed by the names of officers, colonels, captains, staff captains, lieutenants, second lieutenants. The list is closed by those who previously served in the regiment. The name is engraved in the center: A.N. Ogarev. According to one version, such ladles were made in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Preobrazhensky Life Guards Regiment, formed by Tsar Peter I in 1691. Weight: 2252 grams.
