Lot 295 - BRONZE BUST OF GEORGE WASHINGTON AMERICAN PRESIDENT

A bronze bust of George Washington, created based on the famous sculpture by the French master Jean Antoine Houdon. Houdon created an original sculptural portrait of the first U.S. president in 1785 to 1786, following a personal meeting with Washington at his Mount Vernon estate. The work is executed in a classical style. Houdon deliberately eschewed idealization, capturing realistic facial features, a strong chin, and Washingtons characteristic hairstyle, with the hair gathered at the back.
