FIRST ED CHAS BIEDERMAN NEW ART HELEN KELLER COPY

Seller: 2C105 (107)

First Edition. Charles Biederman's influential modernist treatise Letters on the New Art, published in Red Wing, Minnesota in 1951. This scarce work presents a series of letters discussing the philosophy, purpose, and evolution of modern abstract art, reflecting Biederman's pioneering theories on structure and artistic creation. A particularly notable association copy, warmly inscribed by the author to Helen Keller on the front endpaper: "To Helen Keller, with my best wishes, Charles Biederman, Oct. '51." The inscription links two significant twentieth-century figures: Charles Biederman, the American abstract artist and theorist associated with Structurism, and Helen Keller, the renowned author, lecturer, and humanitarian. Association copies connecting these individuals are rarely encountered on the market. Illustrated throughout with reproductions and diagrams accompanying Biederman's discussion of modern art. Bound in the publisher's original red printed wrappers. An uncommon first edition made especially desirable by its presentation inscription to one of the most celebrated figures in American history.
