Lot 211 - PAIR OF ANTIQUE FRENCH BRASS FIGURINES BY JUIEN CAUSSE

A pair of antique French brass allegorical figurines, titled LHistoire and La Poesie by Julien Causse. Each figure is depicted in classical drapery. LHistoire: Shown as a classical woman writing on a stone tablet. The tablet lists significant ancient civilizations: EGYPTIENS, GRECS, and ROMAINS. La Poesie: Depicted in a graceful contrapposto pose, leaning on a lyre, which is the traditional symbol of musical and poetic inspiration. Both figurines are mounted on wooden circular bases. Julien Causse, French, 1869 to 1914, was a prominent French sculptor of the Art Nouveau era, celebrated for his elegant depictions of the female form. Causse was a master of the Belle Epoque aesthetic. His work often features flowing drapery, romanticized facial features, and a sense of movement, all visible in LHistoire and La Poesie.
