An intriguing antique sterling silver Victorian chatelaine accessory, specifically designed as a skirt lifter or dress clip. While its elongated form often causes it to be mistaken for a Judaica Torah pointer (Yad), the functional design reveals its clever original purpose. The piece features an openwork oval frame enclosing a central sliding rod accented with a spherical node and scrolling silverwork. When the mechanism is manipulated, the bottom prongs retract into the ferrule collar to firmly pinch a lady's skirt fabric, keeping the hem elevated. The top is decorated with a classic laurel wreath motif and connects to a traditional chatelaine suspension chain.
