A lot of two volumes of the book Contes du Chat Noir by the French writer and owner of the famous cabaret, Rodolphe Salis 1851 to 1897, published in Paris in 1927. The book contains illustrations in color by Joseph Hemard, created using the au pochoir technique. The illustrations on the title pages include images of naked female figures. Publisher: Les Arts et Le Livre, located on Rue Prudhon in Paris. The books were released as part of the Le Miroir des Moeurs collection. This is a limited edition. The majority of the print run was on velin teinte de Rives paper. The stamp on the blank page indicates a specific copy number. Louis Rodolphe Salis was the creator, host and owner of the Le Chat Noir cabaret in the Montmartre district of Paris. With this establishment, Salis is remembered as the creator of the modern cabaret: a nightclub where the patrons could sit at tables with alcoholic drinks and enjoy variety acts on a stage, introduced by a master of ceremonies who interacted with the audience.
