Gustav Brauner, German, 1880 to 1966, an oil painting on board depicting a wood wagon on a country road. Signed lower left, dated 1948. Framed. Bears a paper label on the back side from Crescent City auction gallery. Gustav Brauner 1880 to 1966 was a German painter. Brauner was born the son of a free yard owner. He studied construction technology in Brno from 1896 to 1900, then from 1901 to 1905 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Julius Victor Berger, where he received a prize for a nude painting. From 1906 to 1922 he was an art educator at the German secondary school and at the girls lyceum in Ceske Budejovice. Already at this time, Brauner painted landscape paintings of the Bohemian Forest.
