After Andy Warhol, American, 1928 to 1987, color silkscreen on paper. Titled Birth of Venus, After Botticelli. Numbered 66 out of 70 and signed in the lower left. Dated 1987 on the backside. Matted and framed. Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture that flourished by the 1960s. Originally executed in 1984 as part of a series of reimagined Quattrocento masterpieces, Warhols Venus is cropped and magnified from the Botticellis composition to form a spellbinding portrait, placing Venus in his pantheon of icons, alongside the exalted image of Marilyn Monroe.
